If you ride to Daytona Beach, Sturgis, Hollister, or any other hamlet hosting a rally, the streets will be thick with people on fancy motorcycles. You can’t see the forest for the triple trees. But in the end, they all disperse and go home. Vince Doll’s promise to those who ride away from the arterial clot of customized chrome on one of his Redneck choppers, is to make you a hero in your hometown.
Doll’s mission is to build affordable custom bikes. With typical Southern graciousness, he wants to share his fantasy and let it become one and all y’all’s dream come true. An egalitarian chopper vendor, his customers include testosterone-addled teenagers as well as bigwigs. He enjoys looking at his own collection of bikes with his grandson Devon. “Dang, Poo, these are cool,” says the little boy. “When I get big can I ride that one?” It already has his name on it; there’s one earmarked for another grandson, too.
Lest anyone think Vince Doll takes himself too seriously, he calls himself Nobody. It is, in fact, his company title, stitched above the breast pocket of every shop shirt he wears. He’s got a clothes closet filled with them, and you are just as likely to see him wear one at a formal dinner as at a country diner

Question by Michelle Bessell: How do I build banquet business in my restaurant?
I have the privilege of working for a well known, beautiful waterfront restaurant in Daytona Beach, Florida. We do a lot of business during Race Week (Daytona 500), but outside of that, I want to build my business – meaning the volume we get during February (,000 from banquets alone). Right now I’m trying to build on weddings, receptions, the pharmaceutical dinner meetings we are already hosting, and trying to find more financial groups to host their dinners with us. Does any one have any good ideas?
Yes we are members of the local chamber of commerce as well as the convention and visitors bureau, which have helped some. They have social networking events that I go to once a month.

I have been in contact with several of the bridal shops in the area, which haven’t really been all that helpful, believe it or not. I was quite amazed that I have not received more calls from the brides as my business cards are in the salons.

The biggest thing my company is trying to look for at the moment is a way to build on the pharmaceutical & financial meetings business… Any specific ideas for those areas?

Best answer:

Answer by nascar88gyrl
Do you belong to the Chamber of Commerce and Better Business Bureau in your area? Members give other members and “outsiders” referrals. If you want to build your wedding/reception business, contact the bridal salons and all other bridal related businesses in the area. Place ads in your local newspapers. Advertise in the yellow pages of all of the telephone directories in your area.

Lt. Gen. Benjamin Freakley, the commanding general of U.S. Army Accessions Command, discusses the Army’s motorsports sponsorships with the media on Friday at Daytona International Speedway. U.S. Army photo by Tim Hipps, FMWRC Public Affairs

House, Freakley reaffirm Army’s sponsorship of motorsports teams

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Feb. 18, 2011 — On the day the House voted 281-148 to allow the U.S Army to continue its NASCAR sponsorship, Lt. Gen. Benjamin Freakley explained the importance of the relationship to the media at Daytona International Speedway.

Rep. Betty McCollum (D) of Minnesota introduced a measure to ban Department of Defense spending on NASCAR sponsorship as an amendment to the House’s spending bill. On Feb. 18, the House rejected the proposed sponsorship ban.

Freakley, the commanding general of U.S. Army Accessions Command, said the Army spends .4 million per year on NASCAR and .9 million on NHRA sponsorships. Another million goes toward activation of the motorsports sponsorships – all the moving parts that complete the Army experience for fans attending race tracks across America.

"We have brought those dollars down over the years," said Freakley, whose Recruiting Command sponsors driver Ryan Newman in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Top Fuel dragster driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher on the National Hot Rod Association circuit. "In the three and a half years I’ve been engaged, we have shaped the races that we’re in and we have shaped our sponsorship because it’s the American peoples’ money.

"We recognize that. But regardless, I have to invest in awareness," Freakley explained.

Freakley said studies indicate that NASCAR provides the best return for the Army’s investment in the marketing of military recruiters’ desired audience.

During the past three years, the Army got out of the business of sponsoring arena football, motorcycle racing and rodeo bull riding, but stuck with NASCAR, the NHRA and the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the premier all-star football game for high school seniors.

"We run the Army’s marketing and advertising programs to make Americans aware of the American Army opportunities, options, education and what young people can find if they come to serve us in the Army," Freakley said. "In September 2000, we were directed by the Congress to direct a pilot through NASCAR from all services to connect with the American people through this venue, this great motorsport called NASCAR. We did the pilot and we liked it so much in the Army that we kept it going.

"In my mind, after three and a half years of working with NASCAR, we have a treasured relationship with NASCAR because it gives us a great venue to tell our story as Soldiers where people are receptive – as we call it, a passion point."

In 2010, the Army generated more than 150,000 recruiting leads from its sports-marketing program. One third of those – 46,000 – came from NASCAR and the motorsports programs, Freakley said.

"It’s not a day at the track," he explained. "Many people think, ‘Why are we spending this amount of money for a day at the track?’ This is a yearlong engagement by the Army where we go into high schools, go onto the tracks and use this venue to talk about this discourse about serving in the Army.

"We do know that young people and their parents have this passion point about NASCAR. We do know that they come to the races. We do know, as you will observe this weekend, they come to the Strength in Action Zone. They talk to our Soldiers. They talk to our sergeants. We have a common dialogue on no threatening ground.

"You’re not standing in a recruiting station on the brink of a decision. You’re at a NASCAR event to have a discussion and a deep dialogue," Freakley added. "We get a much richer dialogue on this common ground than if we were not here."

Another 25,000 students and teachers attended the Army’s education outreach programs that stress the importance of graduating from high school, Freakley said.

"It’s not about Army recruiting, it’s about awareness and staying on track so you can qualify into the Army," Freakley said. "Only one of four of our youth, 17-to-24-year olds, can qualify to join the military because of education, obesity or other health issues, and conduct. And those same young people probably can’t work on a race car because they’re not physically fit to work on a race car."

The outreach programs provide youngsters with different perspectives of Army life beyond the battlefields. In some instances, the Army’s affiliation with NASCAR actually helps give recruiters access to students.

"Off and on in the American experience, we’ve had recruiters and ROTC and West Point outreach fully allowed into high schools, and other times we’ve seen the doors closed," Freakley said. "And sometimes NASCAR opens those doors."

Freakley said the relationship also helps the Army connect with mainstream America, an issue that recent media reports indicate needs addressing.

"Long ago, a philosopher said that to have a great nation, you have to have a Congress, the people and the Army interconnected, and if you break any of those connections, that’s where things fail," Freakley said. "This keeps us connected to the American public in this triad partnership."

"We also know that once someone has come to a race and witnessed and visited the Army Strength in Action Zone, visited with our Soldiers, and seen the Army car, they have a 37 percent higher positive feeling about the Army from this experience of the Army in NASCAR.

"Year by year, we review these programs to try to look at the best return on investment that’s possible and make the best investment for America to build an all-volunteer Army."

Car owner/driver Tony Stewart, owner of Newman’s No. 39 U.S. Army car, was delighted to hear the House’s decision to let the Army remain involved with racing.

"We’re pretty excited about that," Stewart said. "Obviously, this is a program that works for them or they wouldn’t be a part of this sport. It’s been a very successful tool for the U.S. Army and hopefully we get to continue that program with them.

"Definitely, from a car owner’s side, that was good news today."

The U.S. Army will sponsor Newman for 15 races this season. Dale Earnhardt Jr., NASCAR’s most popular driver, has a half-season sponsorship from the National Guard, and the Air Force will sponsor several races for A.J. Allmendinger. The Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard dropped their NASCAR sponsorships in recent years.

"I just think there’s a nexus of this is sort of America’s sport, and the United States Army is America’s team," Freakley said. "We talk to ourselves about, ‘We are America’s Army. We represent America.’

"There’s just a lot of common ground between the teamwork, the power, the passion, the competitiveness and the patriotism that finds us overlapping one another as we come to these events."

Ok, so I really want to get involved in some type of work where I can help animals or help needy children. I’m not sure where to look or how I can get into this type of work, or even what kinds of jobs there are out there for this. Does anyone do this? Or know where I can get started. I would like to get paid for it, but I would even volunteer if I had to just to start. I live in the Daytona Beach area.

Question by SHERINA: What is spring break season like while living in Daytona Beach?
I am moving from a quaint, little Ohio town to Daytona/Ormond Beach, Florida for work. I am really excited for this move, however, I am a tad bit leery about spring break. I hear that the area becomes overrun with students, parties, fights, and loud music that will still be thumping at 3 AM. Is this true? Does anyone live in the Daytona area (or any popular spring break area) that has any suggestions?

Best answer:

Answer by maxineschleisner
This is true, I live in Florida and have been there but it is so much fun. We have just finished Gasparilla here in Tampa and we had two different parades that are difficult but alot of fun. It is the same there. Don’t worry, you will get used to it. It’s fun here in Florida and you will be very happy once here. The weather can’t be beat and I can say when there isn’t something going on you will wish there was something fun going on, join in and have some fun.

Daytona neighborhood battles seedy elements
Ridgewood Avenue near Fairview Avenue is an area that’s been branded as one of the easiest places in Daytona Beach to find prostitutes, drugs and motels that rent rooms by the hour. Social service agencies on the north side of Ridgewood Avenue have been taking a lot of the blame for the neighborhood’s problems the past few years.

Answer by Traveler
I had a family member in there and the staff were competent. You can research staff members yourself as well.

Halifax Medical Center’s staff is on:

http://www.halifaxhealth.org/PhysicianFinder/default.aspx

The Florida Medical License search site is on:

http://ww2.doh.state.fl.us/irm00praes/PRASLIST.ASP#theBottom

You can take a staff member’s name from the staff list and plug it into the license search site and see if they have had any disciplinary action taken.

Question by : Do you agree with my top 5 most important moments in Pro Wrestling?
1. Hulk Hogan vs Andre The Giant at WM 3 “David vs Goliath”.

We all remember Hulk Hogan bodyslamming Andre The Giant infront of 93,000 at the Pontiac Silverdome. This event pretty much launched Hulkamania into the stratosphere and made Wrestlemania the premiere sporting event in the World. This was the day Hulk Hogan went on to become a multi-media megastar.

2. The birth of Austin 3:16.

King of The Ring 1996, Stone Cold defeating Jake Roberts.

“You sit there and you thump your Bible and say your prayers, and it didn’t get you anywhere! Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16… Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your …”

With this quote Stone Cold launched himself into wrestling super-stardom. He became the highest selling wrestling product ever, including Hulk Hogan. He immediately became a fan favorite and created a frenzy of business for both himself and the WWF.

3. Hulk Hogan and the New World Order.

This is probably one of the most memorable moment in history. It was at Daytona Beach, Fl, July 7th 1996 it all happened. Bash at the Beach, the newly debuted Scott Hall and Kevin Nash were to take on the team of Randy Savage, Sting and Lex Luger. At some point in the match, Randy Savage was by himself in the middle of the ring beaten up by Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. All of a sudden, Hulk Hogan comes out of the back and enters the ring. Everyone though Hulk Hogan was coming to help WCW, but instead he made history. He gave Randy Savage a leg drop and this moment is remembered as one of the greatest heel turns of all time. This all resulted in one of the most profitable era’s in PW history.

4. The debut of Monday Nitro.

This was the start of the controversial Monday Night Wars which brought wrestling to new heights. The owner of WCW, Ted Turner, wondered how he could make WCW a real threat to WWF and put them out of business. Eric Bischoff suggested that they could go straight against WWF’s prime show “RAW”. Ted obliged, and WCW Nitro was born. WCW became a real threat to WWF and won the ratings war 84 consecutive weeks.

5. Owen Hart’s death.

Kansas City, May 23rd, 1999.
At this date, the wrestling world and The Hart family suffered a terrible loss. Owen Hart fell to his death at The Kemper arena, attempting a stunt.
The plan was that Owen Hart was supposed to come down from the raters with a wire and enter the ring, safely. Something went terribly wrong, and Owen fell 50 feet from the ceiling to the mat and died on the way to the hospital. It was decided to continue the PPV, which later was heavily criticized by the media.

Honorable mentions:

The Montreal screwjob.
Vince McMahon buys WCW.
Vince Jr. buys WWF from Vince Sr.
The beginning of “Austin vs McMahon” feuds.
