One peculiarity of the counterculture in the ’60s was that it was inherently, really anti-technology. I think it thought technology came from government, it came from corporations, and we’re going back to basics—we don’t need technology. Except our hi-fis, of course. And our drugs. [laughs] And those can be—the more technically refined, the better. But by and large, technology was supposed to be bad.
So much of the counterculture disapproved of the space program. It was military guys with crewcuts. It was the government wasting money. Let’s take care of things on earth before we leave it. All of this kind of rhetoric was out there—except for one guy: Jacques Cousteau, the oceans guy. He had a better sense of the sphericity of the earth probably than any other surface-bound person at that time.
What he knew was that the oceans—two-thirds, three-quarters of the planet—you could not monitor. And yet, terrible things were happening to it. So his sense was that you had to have satellite imagery and people looking down at the earth from outside in order to protect the oceans.
He just said, we gotta get out there.

Goed…op zoek naar een dagkaart, zou ik doen, is gewoonweg het makkelijkste… juist… metrohalte – MetroMover kennelijk – naast de deur, klinkt toch perfect? Justa… iets te perfect inderdaad, hoi cynisme. Kaartautomaat. Ehm. Kaart… automa… at… – ‘stilte’ – justa… rondgekeken of er een winkel was… nope… jammer… nou ja, dan maar naar boven met de trap naar de halte… kaartau… ow, laat maar, bagger… maar gevraagd aan een politieagent / beveiliger die enigszins vreemd opkeek dat iemand hem aan (durfde) te spreken – wat moest ik anders? – blijkt nou, de kaartautomaat staat niet op deze halte… maar dagkaarten zijn alleen verkrijgbaar bij de halte ‘Government Center’… mooi… maar, raad het al… geen kaartautomaat om een kaartje te komen om daar naar toe te gaan, geen – degelijk geprijsde – winkel waar je aan klein geld kon komen, want mijn losse dollars voor een bus waren – voor de zoveelste keer – op… uh… hmm… bagger… lopen dan maar…
Ja, hoever zou de halte zijn? Zit zelf met het hotel in de binnenstad… tussen 15th en 16th street in… stukje lopen kan geen kwaad… kaart… volgende kaart, want deze was onleesbaar… kaart… ehm… bagger… moet helemaal naar 2nd street en dan nog eens 4 straten naar het westen… hmm… nog steeds geen dollars voor een bus en nog steeds geen kaartautomaat… nou ja, lopen blijft gezond… dan maar gelijk de excursie binnenstad er aan vast plakken… dat dus ook gedaan.
Lekker door de binnenstad gelopen, bij het eerste stoplicht bijna omver gereden worden terwijl het groen was, twee keer! Goed, kunnen twee chagrijntjes achter elkaar zijn… kan b’rn… goed, verder gelopen, hmm… volk rijd wel agressief… veel chagrijntjes achter elkaar dan, ochtendheumeurtypetjes, was nog redelijk vroeg – zeker voor mijn doen de laatste week, ik kan niet meer – veel oude gebouwen in de stad, en dan voornamelijk het type Spaans, steen, leuke levendige kleurtjes en veel specifieke Spaanse kenmerken, erg mooi allemaal, beetje slecht onderhouden soms, maar dat geeft karakter… de rest van de stad schoon, netjes, beetje nat van de regen nog, aantal afvoeren hadden het begeven, voornamelijk wit – als zijnde gebouwen – en nieuw, niet veel echt interessante architectuur, de meeste zijn niets meer dan woningen of hotels, en eigenlijk allemaal hetzelfde; rond of vierkant, grote verdiepinghoge ramen, kamerbrede ramen, aardig balkon eraan (hotels meestal zonder) en een parkeergarage eronder van een verdieping van 5 tot 7 hoog.
Kleinere straten, soms twee baans, duidelijk niet Amerikaans van origine, toch wel een duidelijk grid erop en ja, leuk sfeertje… behalve de automeukbulisten… volk! Steelletje Nederlanders in het verkeer lijken het wel, alleen dan nog een stap erger – dat is positief bedoelt voor de Nederlanders, voor wat het waard is – volk kan echt niet rijden. Constant agressie, duwen, sandwichen, bumperkleven, voetgangers omver pogen te rijden – ja, nog een paar keer inderdaad – zonder knipperlicht ineens de bocht invliegen (al dan niet vanaf de middenste rijbaan) – zeker de Nederlandse Volvo rijders moeten zichzelf hierin herkennen, zo niet; krijg je het nu te horen; jullie rijden als een stelletje aso’s (op de zeldzame enkeling na, gebruik eens knipperlichten en zie jezelf niet als koning van de weg omdat je in het veiligste merk rijdt!) – zo rijden ze in Miami ook… alleen naar zichzelf kijkend en iedereen is verder een onbenul omdat hún belangrijker zijn, werkelijk, Frisco was lang niet zo erg… mooie stad is Miami verder, niks echt op aan te merken, maar het rijgedrag vertoont zich toch ook wel in de karakters… ik zou er niet willen wonen.
In Los Angeles was het verkeer enorm aardig en meelevend, weinig getoeter – wat wil je, op 5 tot 7 baans wegen moet je toch wel ruimte zat hebben – geen problemen, keurig netjes, ja… eigenlijk zoals je het graag zou willen hebben (enkele rotte appel heb je overal wel) Frisco was een Europees soepzooitje, dus misschien niet agressiviteit van de mensen maar de Europesere omgeving die het ‘m deed… Vegas had verschrikkelijke stoplichten, makkelijk 5 minuten rood / groen, tref je rood, wachten maar… verder netjes in het verkeer. Minneapolis / St. Paul, krappere straten, verder ook best aardig verkeer, net als in de vorige 3 steden aardige mensen. Chicago is gewoonweg erg druk, Transformers III werd opgenomen dus aantal bruggen dicht, kan ik van begrijpen dan zoiets problemen op levert, en dan nog eens Lollapalooza erbij, de andere helft in Chaos… nog steeds redelijk netjes verkeer onder de omstandigheden, aardige mensen (een van de shuttlebusbestuurders was wat gefrustreerd achter het stuur). Hier in het hotel hartelijk ontvangen door de receptie, klerken bij het parkeren ook aardig, restaurant ook aardig, ene iets blijer dan de ander, maar buiten het hotel… jeetje… afstandelijk volk allemaal, gister niet veel van meegekregen, op de verkeersagressie rondom de bus heen natuurlijk, maar vandaag zie je het allemaal gebeuren, zooitje!
Goed, zuid Florida is een goede bestemming voor een vakantie tijdens het hoogseizoen (voornamelijk Spring Break, geen orkaanhoogseizoen) maar ik zou eigenlijk niet graag hier te vaak terug willen komen. Ik heb – de mensen die mij beter tot goed kennen – altijd lopen verkondigen dat ik 3 dingen in Amerika nooit zou doen, en 1 ervan was naar Florida (volgens mij weet de oplettende lezer dit van een van de eerste dagen ook al) de stad is prachtig, en het is zeer mooi, extreem mooie en onbekende natuur, waar kom je kleine hagedisjes op straat tegen?, en veel wel te verstaan… planten die je nog nooit gezien hebt en een altijd warm klimaat… Florida… groenten die ondefinieerbaar zijn op je bord en (geen idee eigenlijk) niet verkrijgbaar zijn in Nederland (in toko’s misschien) nou ja, sowieso niet vers verkrijgbaar, waar je het aan de bediening vraagt en je het antwoord krijgt zonder probleem en de opmerking dat het wel heel erg opvalt dat niemand het kent omdat iedereen het vraagt – niet als een ‘zucht’ antwoord, rustig maar – maar op de een of andere manier is de stad (en staat) veel beter dan verwacht, moet het een keer gezien hebben, goed voor een laatste week uitrusten, maar het… ja… het is… zo afstandelijk hier…
Een dagpas gekocht… – ja, eindelijk aangekomen – 5 euro voor de dagpas, twee voor de kaart… hmm… o… v… c… h… i… p… k… – hoef niet af te maken toch? – 3 jaar geldig, makkelijk, je weet maar nooit, misschien gaat het reisje wel naar Miami toe en heb ik alvast een Transit kaart… ga natuurlijk geen 2 keer moeilijk doen – ‘smile’ – en anders heb ik gewoon een extra chipkaart / souvenir… ja… dan de metro… MetroRail… MetroMover… ehm… Inner loop… Outer loop… hmm… na 10 minuten verdacht rondbajeren het maar opgegeven, dan maar een bus… – moest terug naar de halte naast het hotel omdat dáár juist de bussen richting Miami Beach waren – (had ondertussen al een aardig deel binnenstad gezien, verder niets spannends daarover te vertellen; oude Spaande bebouwing, witte Amerikaanse bebouwing en beton ertussen waas de wegpiraten zegevieren…) en ik graag naar de Art Deco wijk wilde, het ging namelijk om 1 uur regenen volgens het weerbericht van een half uur eerder… hmm… snel dan maar… dus naar de andere kant van de binnenstad gelopen (west naar oost dit keer) omdat daar de MetroMover was richting de juiste halte… makkelijk… ik had de bussen al opgegeven omdat daar al helemaal geen doorkomen aan was…
Bijna 10 minuten op de bandentram op betonbielzen boven op palen gewacht, ding had vertraging – waar ken ik dat toch van? – en naar de juiste halte gegaan (praktisch de belangrijkste hub in het centrum, logisch hé) vervolgens naar de bus… ehm… ja… halte in verbouwing… ja… kaart… ow, andere… weer… ehm… 120… goed… loop je naar de halte… sorry, halte voor bus 120 niet meer in gebruik sinds 23 november 2009… hmm… kaart… – ‘hoofd scheef’ –… ehm… ja… ehh… – ‘zucht’ – ja… eindelijk de juiste halte gevonden (zijn er een stuk of 6 in de straten er omheen en de kaart klopt niet echt met de situatie zelf) en maar wachten op de bus… lijn C… lijn M… lijn S… uiteindelijk lijn 120, express bus, lekker snel.
Naar de belangrijkste straat en bij CVS nog wat drinken gekocht (CVS en Walgreens zijn de ‘supermarkten’ in de steden hier, Wal-Mart e.d. zitten meestal in de buitenwijken) en verder gegaan… met een briefje van 20 (hebben ze een hekel aan, zeker als je iets van ,02 af moet rekenen…) het strand op gegaan, een klein stukje zuidwaarts gelopen en de strijd opgegeven… via de Art deco wijk – erg leuk, vind het een beetje eentonig alleen, heb je er 1 gezien… dan eigenlijk ze ook allemaal – ‘broodroosterhuizen’ of ‘toasterhuizen’ had ik ineens als bijnaar in me gekregen, terug naar de belangrijkste straat, toe aan de airco… eerst nog maar even een stukje (airco) bus, lijn S maar, naar boven, een ander ‘erg mooi moet je bezoeken stand’, niets te beleven… bus terug (je ziet echt wel wat van de omgeving hoor, en hoeft gelukkig niet te lopen) het zweet stond droop van mijn gezicht af… had mijn camera moeten zien, bovenkant ervan, had medelij… die mag wel een schoonmaakbeurt gebruiken ondertussen… in de Art Deco wijk was dit het ergste.
Bus terug… ja… halte vinden… uiteindelijk er een gevonden. Wachten maar… bus kwam redelijk snel – lijn 120, jee, express – en terug naar de belangrijkste straat. Ik wilde South Beach ook nog zien, zon scheen om half 2 nog steeds, dus op de kaart gekeken, lijn M… ken ik bij de halte aan, staat er een Lokale bus naar South Pointe (helemaal onderin) en helemaal makkelijk, bus in, geen lijn M gepakt en vanaf 17th street naar 1st street gereden, uitgestapt en naar Biscayne Street gelopen (alles heet hier Biscayne, straat van het hotel is bijvoorbeeld Biscayne Blvd… en er zijn er nog veel meer) en naar oost… op weg naar het strand.
Gezellig druk strand, niets mis mee, veel toeristen en begin maar te lopen, bijna het zuidelijkste punt van de stad gehad, en loop maar naar noord… zon ietwat in de rug en ja… beetje gezellig van het strand genieten (had me al 4 of 5 keer ingesmeerd met zonnebrandcrème). De meiden hier, zijn makkelijk volgepompt… voorgevelwijs dan… zoveel plastic als daar in is gegaan heb ik in Los Angeles niet gezien… en als het niet in de voorgevel is gegaan, dan wel in lippen, wenkbrouw’correctie’, vollere lippen, strakkere… verzin maar iets… ja, Silicon Beach ongeveer… vrouwen mogen iets meer uittrekken dan in de rest van het land, dus praktisch alleen de opgepompte (0,5% durft het maar) ligt overdreven, pontificaal, rond en recht naar boven wijzend, vol littekens voor of onder, het moest ergens via naar binnen, op het strand geen leuk uitzicht te wezen… de andere 99,5% hield gelukkig de bikini wel aan en zag er ook een stuk natuurlijker uit… op de enkeling na die voorbij liep met een wel heel erg strakke bikini zonder beweging met cupmaat veel, of anders gewoonweg niet normaal ogend… het strand is zeer mooi, was drukkig, maar het was niets vergelijkbaar met de Nederlandse strandwaanzin de twee dagen dat het boven de 30 graden is… het was gewoon een leuke wandeling, want ik wilde toch wel even van het strand genieten (beste strand van Miami volgens sommigen) en in Daytona kan het wel eens slecht weer zijn voor 2 dagen… en anders hen ik nog en keer geluk…
Je bent aan het lopen en hoever zou je ondertussen zijn? Geen idee, halte is op 17th street, dus, zal het zijn, 22nd street ondertussen, gezicht weer helemaal nat, geen puf meer, strand een stuk rustiger, liep helaas minder lekker want het vorige deel had steviger zand. Maar een afslag genomen, en een straatbordje opgezocht… ehm… wat… s**t… 39th street – bijna 5 kilometer op het strand gelopen inderdaad – bus terug… weg onder constructie, kon niet oversteken, eindelijk op 34th street kunnen oversteken en een bus genomen naar de belangrijkste straat – schoenen waren vol water gelopen door een onverwachte golf, zijn waterdicht verder… wat ook betekend dat water erin er ook niet zomaar meer uit gaat… bagger… naar CVS gegaan (goede klant deze dag) weer met een 20je afgerekend, 4 verschillende flesjes variërend van groene thee tot Sierra Mist gekocht… bus… uiteindelijk lijn S maar terug naar de binnenstad genomen, was toch bewolkt aan het raken terug naar het hotel, omdat doorweekte schoenen ook geen porum zijn… was al wat later en ik wilde nog wat doen aan de foto’s… erg onnuttige avond gehad en het maar met een beetje aankloten gevuld…
Morgen staat mijn trein naar Deland gereed op het station, met een aansluitende bus naar Daytona Beach, om daar vervolgens een shuttle / taxi te pakken naar Daytona Beach Shores, hotel aan het strand, voor de laatste twee volledige dagen voordat ik via Raleigh op zondag, maardag de trein naar Charlotte kan pakken… zijn ruim twee zeer momorabele weken geworden en hopelijk de laatste paar dagen ook nog. Daytona heeft vandaag een code rood weeralarm gehad, code oranje wateroverlast en code oranje speciaal weer… er is op een kleine 10 kilometer vandaan een tornado geweest die de grond daadwerkelijk ook heeft geraakt, deze trok vervolgens noordwaarts en heeft de stad als het goed is niet bereikt… hopelijk is het weer morgen wel iets beter…

honestly, im not into to much science and im also not too much into polotics along with gorvernment type subjects but also honestly im not stupid enough to not see this happening can anyone else see the worlds down fall right now with america relying on oil so much, food prices going up, government failing everyday and every day the world gets even more corrupt along with weather affecting everyones lives.. is their anyone else that understands that things are happening and theyre happening quick.. in florida, one of tha most humid places in america had a fire in daytona beach. maryland and oregon are flooding in. new oreleans has already been a victim of this. oklahomas downfall in tha winter entire city covered in inches of ice with no power. not enough money for people that are victims of tornados that tear out an entire town because of not only gas but food and money as it is.. places losing business because of money. and not to mension tha weather everywhere else is any1else w me?
not to mention everyday is always completely different.. one day in winter it will be almost HOT and tha next will be absolutely COLD on and off everyday california reaching record highs just tha other day. places like iraq and korea dont care if tha prices on oil go up all they care about is america falling and if america falls everywhere else falls and that makes america weak because all america(yes im an american but its true) basicly let possessions own us or stupid news about stuff that doesnt even matter about whos fat and what not. all we care about is having a TV in our car or possessions.. when basicly its already too late even if they did start building oil refineries not only would it be too late cuz it takes like 20 years to build them but they pollute tha air even more honestly can anyone else admit that we all got us in a freaking whole.. right now im stuck in a rut i just turned 18 and got 2,000 to buy a car and now i dont even know if i want to get a car based on future

HI Jessica: Turn off your TV. Turn off your radio. Do not go to MSN or Yahoo or CNN for your news. You will get totally bogus info. Remember not all people…many …do not buy into the global warming idea. It is well reported in the news the pending doom. Don’t buy into it. Let the others swallow it while you move onto the future, Your future. You will NEVER EVER hear any news to the contrary or that there is data that does NOT support global warming. If you hear something over and over and over you might start to believe it. That is called brainwashing. Let the lemmings believe it. Expand your research to include opposing views. There are many reputable scientists who are not on drugs who do not buy into it. Don’t listen to the stories about the penguins or polar bears. Don’t listen to the ice berg stories. Remember the titanic hit an ice berg that broke off in some 1912. Gosh remember (maybe your are too young to have heard this) but in 1970s we were absolutely going to freeze to death. These people are nut cases but do not ever disagree or share a different point of view because you will be called names and hated. i think its important for you to be carefull about what kind of information that you read.Still remember there are reputable scientistst who provide us with accurate information about the environment forexample its true that farmers are growing corn for production of bio fuels istead of utilising it for food consumpution leading to a food crisis and increased commodity prices.However its posible to have clean energy and at the same time have adequent food production and fair prices.dont be afraid use all avairable information as an oppotunity

My God! Doesn’t anyone study history. What about the 30′s and the great drought? These things have been happening since the beginning. It is only that NOW it is reported globally.
Record temperatures in California? In what? The last 100 years? What about the last thousand or million years. How do YOU know they are records. Did you know at one time Alaska was a GREEN rain forest? Did you know that even in recent (man’s) history Greenland was farmed? They always point to the ice in Greenland melting. Well, you know that ice has not always been there. In the 70′s we were going to die from an Ice Age by the late 80′s. Low and behold it warmed up. Man has only been keeping records for a very short time. How do you, I or the “scientists” know that this is not normal. How do we know that the Earth is only getting back to “normal” temperatures from the cold of the last Ice Age? Did you know Texas got hit with a hurricane much much larger than the one the hit New Orleans? It was BEFORE the industrial revolution and you know what with all this gloom and doom. The US still hasn’t had a hurricane that big since.

The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.
EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that global warming is real, and mostly caused by us.
Don’t get too discouraged though. We can fix this.
And get a car if you need one. Just make a sensible choice, the smallest one that meets your needs. We don’t have to stop doing things to fix this, we just need to do them smarter.

I am 77 and for the working man it has always been a struggle. The more that Global Warming is propagated the higher the price of oil. The rich are afraid U will burn up the oil to the point that he will not be able to fly. There is no shortage of oil as nature recycles it through plants. Where do U think all the present supply of fossil fuel came from. It came from fossil plants not animal . All oil comes from plants.

Here is an outline for a 30 minute speech I delivered
I. For a long time people have been looking through glasses that have foggy lenses of deception regarding global warming. In the next couple of minutes I intend to show you a more accurate eye chart and update your prescription.
A. Reasons for listening to my speech are very simple. One of the main reasons is that Global Warming is nothing to waste your time on. If it so important to the environment, then we would have done something for it by now. Another reason that you should listen is that this could be a life changing speech that greatly effects every moment of your life from here on out.
I am 100% accurate in reporting my information. I have done the research necessary to ensure that you are getting nothing but hard core facts. For the past several weeks of my life has been dedicated to finding out information for my speech topic. Nobody knows as much credible information on this topic as I do.
C. My point for this speech is to try and persuade you to see the light at the end of the dirty tunnel of humanities’ lies.
II. Global Warming is the most debatable topic that was probably ever around. You need to know this information. If you don’t educate yourself properly on this topic you will live the rest of your life in fear of something that doesn’t exist.
A. Global Warming is a natural cycle. Everything about it is natural. Carbon dioxide levels vary throughout time. Humans can make little or no impact on the environment.
1. Take a look at this chart taken from an online internet poll. What do you notice from this? There is a close tie between adults that believe in Global Warming and some that don’t. As you can see the charts are pretty close. There is about one person who doesn’t believe in Global Warming to two people who do. This means that only 60% of the world believes in global warming. My goal by the end of this speech is to have the 60% be persuaded that they are not believing in the accurate thing. With the following facts, I am 100% sure that this goal is possible and will be achieved.
2. Al Gore stated this quote in his movie “…The 10 hottest years ever recorded were within 15 years of today.” Now this point is valid and true, but we have not been measuring the temperature or anything since the early nineteen hundreds. Can we go down and see how the polar ice caps were doing in the early 1800’s? We can not do that because temperature was not recorded. You may say that they guessed using carbon dioxide levels, but whose to say that they are right? I heard that scientific measures were not always accurate because they took a hundred year old log and did some carbon 14 testing on it. Scientists thought that it was thousands of years old. It was later proved to be younger after more tests were ran. Whose to say that our method of discovering weather is right? We have been measuring temperature for only a short period of time. Earth right now is in a heating process. Thousands of years ago we were cooling which is when we had an Ice Age. Now we are doing the opposite and are starting to warm up before cooling again. Look at this political cartoon. What is one thing that you notice? I notice it being freezing then gradually getting warmer. As my next point is about to prove, we have no effect on the environment no matter what we do.
3. In 1990 a volcano in the Philippines erupted violently. It was by far one of the biggest explosions of the century. We all have read about how volcanoes let off carbon dioxide, but did you know this… When the volcano erupted, it put more carbon dioxide in the air than all of humanity has ever produced…. More than humans have made since the creation of time. All in just a matter of hours. Look at this picture. See all of this carbon dioxide being put into the air? While, with all of this there was no temperature increase or decrease at all… just some carbon dioxide level changes, but nothing major. If volcanoes put off this much carbon dioxide with no effect, then how could we be doing this? When all this happened, then how could you be persuaded that humans who produce fractions of that amount could impact the environment in fractions of the time. Humans if we tried could not severely impact the environment. It is just too big. Even if we are letting some off, plants and other natural recyclers of Carbon Dioxide are just transforming them to oxygen.
4. During World War II, we dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan. We spilled tons of harmful green house gasses into mother nature. This includes radiation, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide. After all of that happened, again there was no effect to the environment that was found. Hiroshima has been having radiation problems still, but there is no significant temperature problem. Nothing humans do can severely change our environment. We only occupy about 50% of the globe. The other 50% is the ocean, ice caps, and land that is not suitable for humans. How could two nuclear bombs not have an impact on the environment, but changing a light bulb in your house to fluorescent can save the environment? It is just impossible that we could have an impact.
5. Another point is that if you look in your text book, I promise you that you will find these words… “When Washington was marching his troops, it was bitterly cold outside” Bitterly cold means freezing. I know that they didn’t have supplies but Virginia in the summer (which is when they fought) is warm. As you can see by these charts, it was 106 degrees outside in the summer. This is without humidity too. Now when we look at this chart it shows us that the battle was fought in Yorktown. There isn‘t much of a distance between Yorktown and Richmond, were this was recorded. How was it bitterly cold a few hundred years ago when now it is normal? The conclusion is that it is a natural cycle. The cycle changes every several hundred years. It was cold then, and now it is slowly warming up. We have nothing to do with it. This is perfectly natural for our environment to do. We would like to believe that humans are the dominate species. Have we ever thought to wonder if what we believe in is caused by nature?
6. One of the most important factual information is still on our planet. Greenland is one of the most misunderstood places around. People like to believe that the reason that it got it’s name is because the settlers didn’t want people to move there so they called an icy land Greenland so that settlers would move their instead of Iceland were it really was green.. After I saw a show on the discovery channel, I concluded that it was actually green. When the first settlers went there, they dined on grapes and cows. I don’t think that I am mistaken, but how could a cow live on an icy land with nobody to feed it. Grapes grow in warm environments which is not ice. Greenland fits that exact description. Also as you can see on this picture, there is still some green left in it. All of it was green once, which proves that it once was green and now it is ice because of the natural cycle, it is starting to freeze. Now Greenland is melting to start the process all over again. In a few hundred years, Greenland will begin to freeze.

7. Ok… Phoenix is known as a hot dry desert place. You think that it keeps getting hotter and hotter here each summer. Take a look at this display on the screens. As you can see, during the day the sun is radiating energy to a large city… lets call it Phoenix. It does this all day until the sun starts to go down. As you can see now, the buildings are built up with radiation while the desert area barely got any radiation build up. Now it is night and as you can see the buildings are radiating heat forming a heat bubble. Now in Phoenix at night it is around 95 degrees. That is because of the buildings radiating. We are made of concrete and steel so we absorb heat. Take a look over at the desert. See how the temperature there is lower? This is because it is not trapped in the heat bubble of radiation.
8.Many people relate global warming with long citywide droughts. Like in Phoenix, we are in a drought. There are many reasons why this is not caused by us. Have you ever watched the news and heard the following phrase “… and people of Chandler are getting pelted by rain, many individuals are putting up sand bags to protect their homes…?” What this is saying is that small little cities are getting poured on. Look at the power point and see why, The big glob in the center is called Phoenix, Glendale, and Peoria. Ok now imagine that we are in the middle of a storm. The red indicates heavy rain and the yellow indicates moderate rain. As you can see from this animation that I made, the storm is going around Phoenix. We are a giant blob and the storm is just simply avoiding us. Smaller cities like Chandler and Mesa are being pelted by this continuous down pour. So in smaller cities they may say, “We got rained on the most we ever have” and the airport were they measure the amount of rain says there were only a few drops of rain. This proves that we did not cause the drought by carbon dioxide, but we did it by industrializing.
9. Global Warming is also just a political trap. Who are the only ones who want to try and do something about global warming besides tree huggers? Politicians do. When somebody is running for office this makes a better point, I am going to save the world!
