Question by Ryan D: Can someone identify this type of backyard bird? (my Profile picture)?
not the best picture but it has red on its chest and belly and on the top of its head; more of a gray-olive color on its back and wings. i live in daytona beach florida and it was taken in january. i have a painted bunting male (so beautiful) and his family of green and yellowish female and juveniles (4 total). maybe this is a juvenile male becoming an adult? also thought it could be a summer tanager but it didn’t seem to have enough red down its back. it has a short thick bill.

Can’t see you photo at all..way too small. I would guess by your description that this is a male House Finch since I cannot see the photo.
