I’m spending a few days in Daytona Beach, prior to heading out on Geekcruise 39 out of Ft Lauderdale. Water today, after having gotten a bit dehydrated with friends last night.

Question by Shakiki: Florida (Daytona Beach) Houses Rent to Own? Lease? Monthly?
I decided to try posting a question a few months in advance regarding my late-June move to Daytona Beach, FL. I’m going to be moving to DB to find a place to move into (Port Orange, S. Daytona, and Holly Hill are applicable as well with HH being last resort on the list) and will be looking for a place (house preferrably) to pay monthly on (preferrably Rent-to-Own or some sort of Lease or similar?) instead of wasting time and money on an apartment where it’ll eventually diminish. I’m planning on moving somewhere with 2 bedrooms (or more would be fine), in a decent neighborhood, and with a small yard with grass or at least a few trees. I’m unsure of the available amount that I’d be able to finance monthly at this time but I’m thinking $ 1k and under. My brother and I are very responsible people and are non-smokers and rare drinkers. The problem is (well, some people would consider it a problem) that we both have pets. My brother has a dog and I have tamed, caged, rabbits (4). Please help!

i was going to move to DB in 2001 and then Hurricane Ralph went through

maybe won’t happen again…….but DB was hit hard..

I stayed a year in Orlando …..instead…

You can see here how much beach has been lost. This is whole new decking. You used to have to walk out a bridge over the protected sand dunes. The sand was actually washed away under this concrete retaining wall and the resort was worried about loosing the pool which sits above it. Now the water not only comes up to the steps, but beyond them as well. They are working hard to restore the beach. I didn’t get a chance to go upshore far enough, but I was told that they have done a lot of work already. I guess when we come back next year, we will see how much they have gotten done.

New Smyrna Beach is just south of Daytona. There is a river that separates them. To the south is Canaveral National Seashore in Titusville.
